Paris, France, August 6, 2024 – In a historic achievement for Samoa and the broader Pacific Islander community, Alexander Melei Rose has become the first Pacific Islander in 68 years to qualify for an Olympic final in athletics.

A Long-Awaited Triumph For Alexander, this moment has been a career goal for many years. After narrowly missing out in previous attempts, his persistence paid off in a dramatic and tense qualifying round. Overwhelmed with joy, Rose expressed his emotions, stating, “This has been a career goal for so many years.. third time's the charm 😂. Tense qualifying and so incredibly happy to make it through!! Job isn't finished.”

As Alexander prepares for this pivotal moment, the anticipation and excitement are palpable not only in Paris but also back home in Samoa and among Pacific Islander communities worldwide.
