Several New Zealand banks are currently experiencing outages, causing frustration among customers who are unable to access their online accounts and are posting about it online.
The outage has also affected television channels, including Sky News Australia, which have gone off the air. It is unclear if these two incidents are connected, but other media outlets are reporting a widespread Microsoft outage in Australia and New Zealand.
The interruption is currently causing disruptions at train and bus stations, supermarkets, and other establishments utilising EFTPOS, as their systems have become unresponsive.
The origin of the issue is reportedly associated with an update released by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. CrowdStrike has officially communicated that its "engineering teams are actively engaged in resolving this matter".
