Botany Downs Secondary College, a co-educational school with a roll of 1900, achieved a significant victory on Saturday against Tangaroa College, with a final score of 31-0 in a promotion-relegation decider. This win fulfilled an eight-year dream for Botany Downs as they reached the 1A ranks for the first time. The school has a history of success, including winning three 1B championships since 2017, which demonstrates their commitment to excellence in sports.
Botany Downs Secondary College (BDSC) coming out of South East Auckland has beaten Tangaroa College on Saturday 31 - 0 to exceed into the Auckland 1A 1st XV 2024 Competition.
Botany Downs 1st XV is no stranger to winning championships, they're a 3 time champion of the 1B 1st XV Competition since 2017.
Logan Fui, the head coach of the team, acknowledged the contributions of previous players, coaches, and parents who had laid the foundation for the team's current success. He also reflected on the team's recent performance in 2020, where they almost secured promotion-relegation but fell short.
This is the first time Botany has entered into the 1A competition and Coach Fui and his boys understand the challenge thats lies a head of them. “We know it’s a tough competition at the elite level but we are going to give our best as this is an opportunity most schools work for over many years and we understand the blessing this brings for our young people, with more experience and exposure at the next level of competition.” Says Fui.
