The passing of George Michael Lober on April 30th, 2024, marked the end of an era for Samoa and beyond. Known for his multifaceted roles as a businessman, politician, leader, brother, and father, George was a man of many talents and passions, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.

Born on December 18th, 1946, George embarked on a journey filled with dedication and perseverance. He began his career at his family business, R&L Lober Co. Ltd, where he honed his skills and laid the foundation for his future endeavours. George's commitment to hard work and excellence soon led him to Peter Meredith & Co., further solidifying his reputation as a capable and driven individual.

In 1979, George ventured into politics, a decision that would shape much of his future. Over the years, he held various positions, including Minister of Justice, Labour, and ACC Committee. His contributions to the political landscape were characterised by a deep sense of duty and a genuine concern for the welfare of the people.

Beyond his professional achievements, George was known for his unwavering dedication to his family and the Marist Brotherhood. As president of the Marist Old Boys from 1980 to 1983, he exemplified the values of kindness, compassion, and love for others. His family was his pride and joy, and he left behind his beloved wife, Kueva Lober, and five children, Malwine, Konrad, Cherith, George Junior, and Lily.

George's final service, held at St. Therese St in Lepea, was a testament to the impact he had on the lives of those around him. Friends, family, and colleagues gathered to pay their respects and honour his memory, reflecting on his kindness, love for the people, and dedication to his Marist brotherhood.

As we bid farewell to George Michael Lober, we also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind. His life was a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and love for others. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him, and may his legacy continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he touched.
